    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LUCKY 7: SUGARHOUSE CASINO VOTED “BEST PLACE TO WORK”

Team Members vote Philly’s casino top honors seventh year in a row

PHILADELPHIAAug. 11, 2017 – For the seventh year in a row, SugarHouse Casino has been voted a “Best Place to Work” in the annual ranking published by the Philadelphia Business Journal. Philly’s casino was one of six companies to receive the award in the extra-large category (1,000 or more employees) thanks to voting by SugarHouse Team Members. Comprised of approximately 1,600 Team Members, the casino has been honored as a “Best Place to Work” each full year of operation since opening in September, 2010.

The top-ranking companies were revealed at yesterday’s Aug. 10 event at The Fillmore Philadelphia and appear in today’s edition of the Philadelphia Business Journal. The anonymous employee surveys recognize the top employers in the Greater Philadelphia area. Each company included in the 2017 “Best Places to Work” list reached a statistical benchmark to receive this special recognition.

“It’s because of our Team Members that we’ve been recognized as a “Best Place to Work” seven years in a row,” said Wendy Hamilton, general manager of SugarHouse Casino. “I’m thankful for their hard work each and every day – they’re the ones that make Philly’s casino a best place to be for our guests!”

The “Best Places to Work” award is given based on results of a survey taken by employees of each nominated business. Through the third-party survey administered by Quantum Workplace, employees score their place of employment on the following criteria: work-life balance; respect and caring for employees; recognition of accomplishments; feeling empowered; good teamwork and commitment to community.

Since the completion of the casino’s $164 million expansion in 2015, more than 500 people have become SugarHouse Team Members, serving in full-time positions that range from gaming and facilities to food and beverage. In addition to the “Best Places to Work” honor, SugarHouse has also been named a “Top Workplace” by Philly.com six consecutive times since 2010.

Serving as a forefront of community change, LCG unites Larimer residents, neighborhood organizations, leaders and other stakeholders to develop a strong sustainable community and economy through volunteer participants. Founded in 2008, the Green Team is just one of LCG’s five action teams that work to clean and beautify public spaces.

In an effort to enhance vacant lots with flowers and fresh landscaping in the Pittsburgh community, the Green Team instituted the “Love Your Block” initiative. As a result of this initiative, volunteers have resuscitated old, vacant lots into vibrant community gardens.

“We love when the Rivers Casino Community Champions join us for our ‘Love Your Block’ projects,” said Carolyn Peeks, chair of the Green Team. “It’s great to work with a team that shares our dedication to making the Pittsburgh community a beautiful, cleaner place to live.”

With projects at both the neighborhood and city-wide levels, the LCG initiatives promote a vital and green community for all, while engaging with organizations and individuals to make a positive impact in their community. LCG works to unite Pittsburghers to come together in making Pittsburgh a “most livable city” for all of its residents.

“We had a great time working with the Green Team on last year’s ‘Love Your Block’ project and we’re excited to return this year,” said Craig Clark, general manager of Rivers Casino. “They’ve developed a wonderful program that beautifies our neighborhoods and engages the community. We’re very happy to join them and do our part in making Pittsburgh a beautiful place to be.”

Each month, Rivers Casino’s Team Members volunteer to assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community as part of the casino’s ongoing community service outreach program. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions completed a service project with the Hosanna House and the Garden and Green Space Committee of the Brighton Heights Citizens Federation.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RIVERS CASINO’S RAHMON HART NAMED TO PITTSBURGH PUBLIC SCHOOLS’ DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI HALL OF FAME

Director of Community Relations Recognized for Outstanding Community Service

PITTSBURGH — April 26, 2017 — Rahmon Hart, director of community relations at Rivers Casino, was recently named to the Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame. Hart has been recognized for his outstanding engagement with the Pittsburgh community through several community-driven initiatives, such as the Rivers Casino Community Champions program, in which casino Team Members volunteer at local charitable organizations each month. Hart is one of seven inductees selected out of more than 30 nominations by a panel of judges.

Hart will join his fellow inductees as the first class since 2007, to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. After more than a decade, Superintendent Dr. Anthony Hamlet revived the Hall of Fame program to pay homage to PPS graduates who have made remarkable professional achievements coupled with service to the community. This year’s class of inductees is identified by three elite categories: Distinguished Alumni, Distinguished Educator and Young Professional.

“We are proud of all the incredible work Rahmon has done in building such a strong relationship between the community and our Team Members,” said Craig Clark, general manager of Rivers Casino. “I cannot think of a more deserving person to receive this honor and recognition. We’re so fortunate to have Rahmon as a part of our team.”

Inductees and their guests will celebrate this prestigious recognition on Thursday, April 27 at the district’s strategic launch event at Heinz Field in the UPMC Club Lounge. In addition to learning more about this year’s inductees, attendees will be able to meet with members of Dr. Hamlet’s cabinet and engage with future PPS graduates. As the revival of the Hall of Fame program also stems from the district’s launch of a five-year strategic plan, a student expo outlining the district’s offerings will also be on display during the event.

“It’s an honor to be included with this group of exceptional professionals,” said Rahmon Hart. “I’m thankful to be a part of a team that values the importance of community outreach and to have the support of Rivers Casino so that we can give back to the City of Pittsburgh.”

  • RIVERS CASINO COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS LEND A HELPING HAND IN CITY BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RIVERS CASINO COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS LEND A HELPING HAND IN CITY BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT

Casino Team Members Partner with Local Garden Volunteers

PITTSBURGH April 20, 2017 — The Rivers Casino Community Champions will lend a hand (and some green thumbs) to help maintain three community garden lots, today, in Brighton Heights along California and Termon Avenues: Adam’s Lot, Green-Up Lot and Bear Lot with the Garden and Green Space Committee of the Brighton Heights Citizens Federation.

Team Members will work together to spread perennials to new garden patches, rebuild, add and widen brick and stone pathways, prune rose bushes and trees and remove invasive weeds. This work enhances the beauty of the entry-way to the neighborhood and creates a beautiful environment with an ever-changing array of diverse plants, flowers, shrubs and trees. This clean-up process helps beautify the area and keep the gardens sustainable after the winter months.

Since its inception as a non-profit organization in 1967, the Brighton Heights Citizens Federation has been involved in a multitude of activities that encourage the advancement of neighborhood improvements and a greater sense of community. This is accomplished by uniting the citizens of the community, its organizations, and institutions to work hand-in-hand to enhance the health, safety, welfare, property and well-being of the community.

“The Brighton Heights Citizens Federation does wonders to spruce up our city and create green spaces for our community,” said Rahmon Hart, director of community relations for Rivers Casino. “We’re happy to participate in such a fun project and love working with this important community group year after year.”

This year marks the Rivers Casino Community Champions’ fourth year of volunteer participation with the Brighton Heights team.

“It’s because of volunteers like the Rivers Casino Community Champions that we’re able to clean up and maintain these gardens,” said Susan Benn, volunteer Master Gardener and former board member of the Brighton Heights Citizens Federation. “It’s amazing to work with the folks from Rivers Casino because they actually match our passion and energy and are truly fun people to work with.”

Each month, Rivers Casino’s Team Members assist in a service project that benefits the Pittsburgh community as part of the casinos ongoing community service outreach program. Most recently, the Rivers Casino Community Champions completed a service project with The Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped to celebrate National Library Week, earlier this month.
